1900
Armstrong Machine Works is founded by Adam Armstrong. Initially, the company manufactures mechanical potato diggers.
1911
Adam Armstrong brings the Inverted Bucket Steam Trap to market, forever changing the way steam is harnessed and supplied.
1928
Armstrong Machine Works builds a new facility in Three Rivers, Michigan to accommodate the company's continued growth.
1932
Armstrong Steam Works introduces a line of industrial humidifiers. Steam traps remain the company's principal product.
1939
Demand for Canadian-made steam traps leads to the formation of Canadian Armstrong Machine Works. The company continues for more than 30 years.
1961
Armstrong Machine Works celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Inverted Bucket Steam Trap with a continued commitment to quality and ethical business practices that remain to this day.
1963
Lawrence “Army” Armstrong is named president of Armstrong. He serves until 1975.
1969
Armstrong establishes Machine Works, S.A. in Liege, Belgium.
1973
Armstrong Machine Works introduces stainless steel Inverted Bucket Steam Trap models 1010, 1011 and 1012.
1975
Howard G. Lambertson, Lawrence Armstrong’s brother-in-law, is named president of Armstrong. He serves until 1978.
1978
Merrill “Gus” Armstrong is named president. He serves until 2003.
1979
Armstrong-Hunt is formed as a joint venture to manufacture finned tube steam coils and unit heaters in the U.S. and Canada.
1980
The company's corporate name is changed to Armstrong International, Inc. Armstrong Machine Works continues as a division.
1985
Armstrong Yoshitake Inc. is formed to handle pressure temperature controls.
1992
David Armstrong publishes his first book, Managing By Storying Around. David would go on to publish a total of five books before his untimely passing in 2010.
1994
Armstrong expands its global presence with the opening of Kangsen-Armstrong in China.
1996
Armstrong Service is incorporated, expanding Armstrong’s focus from manufacturing to also include comprehensive thermal energy engineering services. The diversification was viewed as leading-edge and forward thinking at the time.
2003
David Armstrong becomes president and CEO of Armstrong. He serves until his untimely passing in 2010.
2004
Kurt Armstrong, David's son, joins the company. He currently serves as Armstrong's chief information officer.
2005
Armstrong International secures approval from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for its advanced steam system efficiency methodology. It is the first efficiency methodology to be approved for international trading of resultant carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions under the Kyoto Protocol.
2006
Armstrong International – Mexico begins operations in Guadalajara, Mexico. The entire Latin American region is now served by Armstrong International – Latin America.
2007
Armstrong expands its global presence with the opening of a facility in India.
2008
Armstrong brings hot water temperature control into the digital age with the introduction of The Brain® Digital Recirculating Valve.
2010
Patrick Armstrong becomes president and CEO of Armstrong.
2010/2011
Ryan, Matt and Troy Bloss uphold the family tradition and join Armstrong. Ryan, Matt and Troy are the sons of Doug and Tammy (Armstrong) Bloss. Doug serves as vice president of Armstrong until 2017.
2011
Armstrong celebrates the 100th anniversary of the introduction of the Inverted Bucket Steam Trap.
2015
Armstrong introduces SAGE® Thermal Utility System Management, the most advanced steam and hot water system monitoring and documentation software available.
2016
Brian Armstrong, Patrick's oldest son, joins Armstrong.
2017
Doug Bloss becomes president and CEO of Armstrong.
2018
Brandon Armstrong joins the family company.
2020
The company introduces the TVS 6000UD—the first double-isolation-and-bleed trap valve station eliminates risk, improves safety, and allows easy trap replacement with no system shutdown.
2021
Armstrong focuses its more than a century of sage thermal utilities knowledge, experience and insight on helping customers successfully face the global challenge of decarbonization.
2022
Armstrong International introduces a new tagline. Experience Matters is an expression of the company's deep commitment to using its heritage of thermal utility experience to create better, smarter solutions and enjoyable experiences for every customer, every single time.
